Ashlynn Trane (b. Washington D.C. in 2001) is currently based in Los Angeles and will receive a BFA from The University of Southern California Roski School of Art and Design. Through intertwining drawing, painting, and sculpture, Trane develops a multidimensional encapsulation of double-consciousness. Her work delves into the parallels between the systemic oppression faced by subjugated bodies and the exploitation of animals. Trane specifically investigates bodily autonomy, domestication, and beautification. In her practice, the commodification of cuteness and beauty emerges as a potent symbol of oppressive power dynamics. She works to reclaim, reframe, and empower the element of cute.
